For BOI, this New Normal is a transition period to make adjustments to the way we do market research that in one hand meets the needs for data and insights of our clients and on the other hand satisfies the government’s safety protocols.

Like the rest of the world, the Covid19 outbreak has had an enormous impact on the Indonesian economy. Lockdown measures imposed to control the virus spread, have forced people to stay at home. Among other things, this has also resulted in businesses cutting costs to compensate for the dramatic decrease in revenue in the past few months.

Other than the changes in the economy, people’s habits and behaviour have also shifted. Nowadays, people are more conscious about the importance of hand sanitizers and wearing a face mask in public. The numbers of online purchases and cashless transactions also appear to be increasing while people also try to limit their physical contact.

The impact of this pandemic is also felt greatly by the marketing and research field including BOI Research. With many of BOI’s projects conducted through face-to-face interviews, the outbreak has forced a rethink on how market research projects should be carried bearing in mind all the restrictions in place to prevent Covid19 outbreaks. For BOI, this New Normal is a transition period to make adjustments to the way we do market research that in one hand meets the needs for data and insights of our clients and on the other hand satisfies the government’s safety protocols.

Currently, BOI is in a transition period where we refine the old ways of doing research that would meet the demand of these challenging times. Moving forward, BOI will conduct fewer face-to-face interviews and instead would shift its effort to online research. Quantitative surveys which are usually conducted face-to-face can now be conducted using Private Online Panel. Qualitative research such as In-depth Interviews (IDIs) and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) can also be conducted online through online conference to minimize physical interactions. All these would enable BOI to help the clients with their research needs, while at the same adhering to the social distancing guidelines which will in place for the foreseeable future. On top of that, shifting research online would also lower research cost, welcome news for businesses in this difficult time.
